Here are five tips for a fruitful engagement with employability coaches!

  1. Right Attitude

Be prepared to invest time and effort in the coaching relationship.
Having the right attitude and with a right frame of mind is a positive step forward.

  1. Do your research

Diligence will yield fruits. Do your research and know what you would like to discuss with your coach to have a productive discussion.

  1. Keep an Open Mind

It is important to keep an open mind and be flexible in exploring new areas or opportunities. There may be times when what your coach shares with you may not be what you are expecting to embark on, or may sound demanding.  However, keep an open mind to challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone.

  1. Honesty

It is important to share with your coach your preferences and past experiences. Be open and honest about your thoughts. Your coach will need to know enough about you to provide customised advisory as there is no shoe that fits all. Everyone is different.

  1. Be Responsible

Your coach is around to support and provide the resources to give your job search or upgrading journey an extra boost.  Ultimately, it is still your responsibility to set and realise your goals.

Communication should be a 2-way street to gain a fruitful outcome. There is no magic formula and it is vital for clients to be committed to achieving their career goals.
