COURSE OVERVIEW

In today’s day and age, Semiconductors are found in all aspects of our lives. They control the computers we use to conduct business, the phones and mobile devices we use to communicate, the cars and planes that get us from place to place, the very machines that diagnose and treat illnesses, electronic gadgets we use to listen to music, watch movies, and play games, just to name a few.  Singapore is embarking on the SMART nation initiative. Whereupon the stirring committee has stated that: “Smart Nation is also necessary to accelerate the process of integrating technology into our collective efforts to improve lives, lest Singapore fall behind relative to other global cities.”

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The course enables learners to gain knowledge of the journey of semiconductor manufacturing from sand to a finished chip. They will also gain an understanding of the ecosystem and how all of them come together to support the semiconductor industry – the overall connectivity bringing about the Industry 4.0 revolution that is transforming the world we are presently living in.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Non-technical audience who wants to know a high-level overview of semiconductor devices and how they are fabricated.

COURSE OUTLINE

The course covers the fundamentals of the semiconductor eco-system, looking into aspects of

  • what and where semiconductor chips are found
  • what is an IC (integrated circuit)?
  • how is the IC made (in terms of the process and equipment)
  • the supporting infrastructure (automation, MES, manufacturing systems)

LEARNING OUTCOME:

  • WHY : we need IC chips (more than just computers)
  • HOW: chips are made (From Sand to a functional chip)
  • WHAT: are possible areas of involvement (overall eco system)

    INSTRUCTOR PROFILE

    JOHN YIK

    John has over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.  His experience covers IC and MEMS manufacturing, covering a broad spectrum from photolithography to eutectic bonding, and metrology. He is ACTA certified, presently a freelance technical trainer, focusing on semiconductor manufacturing, FMEA, SPC and Industry 4.0.

    His other interests are in teaching and doing 3D printing and flying drones.
